Designer Spotlight: Zac Posen
October 24, 1980 in New York City began the mark of fashion’s Next Big Thing, Zac Posen. Born to father and artist Stephen Posen and mother and corporate lawyer Susan Posen, Zac was raised in the luxurious SoHo surrounded in creativity and potential. As he grew up, Posen’s talent grew after enrolling in the Parson’s School for Design at the mere age of 16 in a pre-college program. After Parson’s, he received his degree in fashion design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. (Source)
Naomi Campbell was the first to grace the red carpet in a Posen design in 2000, and just two years later, he debuted his first collection on a runway. Only being 21 at the time, Posen was named the Next Big Thing and quickly drew in fashion veterans such as Anna Wintour and Yves Carcelle. It was not long after that more celebrities were drawn to his designs including Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Natalie Portman, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Zac Posen currently designs and produces three collections a year including his Z Spoke line for Saks Fifth Avenue. He has also done a less-expensive collaboration with Target. He plans on expanding into fragrances and signature jeans, which we look forward to in the coming years.
For now, we can expect Posen to continue creating his feminine and sculpted designs and you can catch him every Thursday night on “Project Runway” on Lifetime.
