Trend Alert: Culottes
Culottes. What are they? They’re a wide leg shorts that were popular in the 1940s and again in the 1970s. Their wide appearance can be mistaken for skirts. Which during the 40s was a good way for women to enjoy wearing pants but also still giving the appearance of a skirt which back then was the only item a woman should wear besides a dress. Well this summer the trend has seen a resurgence. Culottes are back in a new style. Here’s how to wear them.
Culottes are an A-Line silhouette so they have some volume. Keep volume in mind when choosing your top for the outfit. A fitted knit shirt is also a great go to. Especially, if your culottes are high waisted.
If you’re an edgy risk taker then maybe you want to take a challenge and go for a more loose top. Perhaps a crew-neck sweater shirt. If a baggy shirt is the plan then I suggest tucking it in a bit. Not too much so there’s some bagginess.
When it comes to shoes keep it simple. No knee high shoes or else you’re going to look right out of Soul Train. Look for flats or ankle straps shoes for a schoolgirl look. High top sneakers would be an interesting shoes choice along with combat boots.
The best pieces to pair up with culottes would definitely be a belt. Blazers are a cute addition to any outfit. Just make sure to keep it at waist length and not too many buttons.
