College Girls’ Guide: Building a Professional Wardrobe

While a wardrobe filled with leggings and T-shirts may sound appealing (and may be the reality), it’s important to build a professional wardrobe for times when you need to look more pulled together. When events such as career fairs or interviews come up, you want to feel prepared rather than stressed out about what you’re going to wear. Plus, when you do land that dream job, you’ll already have a professional wardrobe started so dressing for the first few weeks will be no problem! Here are some ideas to inspire you:

Dress or Pant Suit: A dress or pant suit just screams “powerful woman!” You’ll notice yourself standing taller in an outfit like this and feeling more confident.

Blazers: Blazers are a must for anyone who wants to achieve a professional wardrobe. They can make anything look more polished. They also look great paired with jeans for jobs that are more business-casual.

5-6

Button-up Shirt: Button-up shirts are amazing for creating a professional wardrobe. They look great paired with practically anything whether it be skirts, pants, or with a blazer. Add a fun color or pattern if you want to liven things up.

Dress Pants: Dress pants are great because it’s an easy way to change up your style. Try experimenting with different fits like straight leg, wide leg, skinny, cropped, etc.

9-10-11

Heels: Invest in a great pair of black heels. Opt for a single sole shoe over a platform since it looks more work appropriate. Pointed toes tend to look more professional as well.

12

Pencil Skirt: The pencil skirt is a staple piece in any business woman’s closet. It hugs your curves in all the right places and looks great with a blazer or button-up.

Dresses: For those days you don’t feel like putting an outfit together but you still want to look polished, dresses are perfect for you! Just throw it on, add some accessories and you’re out the door.

15-16

The best part about all these pieces is that they mix and match together well. Once you start building a wardrobe of business attire, you will be surprised to see how many outfits you can create using just a few pieces. Also remember that the key to keeping these looks from being drab is to accessorize. Don’t be afraid to experiment with prints, colors, and jewelry. You’ll stand out from the crowd and still look professional.
