Geek Fashion Week Wants You to Level Up Your Fashion
With the growing popularity of geek-inspired fashion on the runways, it’s no surprise that eventually there would be something known as “Geek Fashion Week.” Co-founded by Dina Kampmeyer and supported by a team of dedicated individuals, it debuted last week at Vanaheim Studios in Los Angeles, California. With this being its first year, the event certainly grabbed attention, especially considering the amount of lady geeks who’ve wanted something along the lines of Geek Fashion Week for a really long time. And with all the different events, contests, and marketing through social media that was on display this year, I have no doubt that Geek Fashion Week will be back for another round.
The event, which ran from March 25th to the 29th, hosted fashion shows, mixers, lectures, parties, and styling sessions, some of which were free to attend while others presented a fee. But maybe the best part was the design contest sponsored by HerUniverse: constants from all over (it was hosted over the Internet so people outside of California could attend) had to style a dress three different ways (casual, evening, and business) while using the hashtag “#StyleYourUniverse.” Overall, though, the entire show had a positive turnout, and personally I wish someone would host one of these in New York City!
