Best Nighttime Skincare Rituals

Want to feel like a cleansed & cool goddess before you go to sleep? Follow these steps to ensure you look and feel good every morning when you wake up. (Well, most mornings…)

Remove your makeup!

I’m one of those people who rarely takes off their makeup, simply for the reason that I’m lazy and don’t feel like it. However, for the sake of saving my pillowcases and my skin, I’ve decided to make the switch to being a responsible adult. Using this Eve Lom Cleansing Balm has seriously improved the makeup removing game. Of course, a drugstore makeup remover wipe will do just as well. Just be sure to really get in there and remove mascara and any face makeup because it’ll clog your pores!

Now that you’ve removed your raccoon eyes, it’s time to cleanse your face. Since we’re prepping for bed, try finding a cleanser with calming extracts like this Clean & Clear night relaxing face wash.

This step is essential- now more than ever as winter approaches. Keep your skin hydrated while you sleep with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and rest assured that your skin will still be fully moisturized by morning.

Spot treatment

Now is the time where you get to zap those pesky remaining pimples you may have. Whether you use fancy stuff like this Origins Super Spot Remover, or simply using a dab of toothpaste (It works, I’ve tried it), this is the time to get rid of those red eyesores once and for all.

Drink water!

Hydrating your face is only the beginning! As a basic rule of thumb, keeping your body hydrated is essential to looking and feeling your best. Whenever I remember to, I start my day with 30 oz. of ice cold water in the morning (Thanks Cameron Diaz for the inspiration). Drinking a sufficient amount of water each day helps your body eradicate toxins, so grab a glass of water before you hit the sheets.

Good night’s sleep

Harder than it sounds, believe me. I’m notorious for staring at my phone before I got to bed, which is bad news bears in the long run. I’ve started to make the effort to cut out late night technology sessions, and try listening to calming music and reading a book or magazine instead. Flick the lights all the way off and get cozy- great skin starts with great sleep!
