To Dye Or Not To Dye

Dyeing your hair a couple shades lighter, maybe getting some subtle highlights, is far from the popular trend today. From fuchsia to ice blue (thanks to Kylie Jenner) to bright orange, girls are sprinting out of their comfort zones and trying new things when it comes to hair dyeing.

Although dyeing your hair can be extremely exciting, it can also damage your hair.

Dyeing your hair these bright-bright colors usually requires a bleach, and bleach dries your hair out, strips it of it’s natural oils, and damages it. So how can you get these fun crazy colors, and still have healthy hair? Here’s a few tips!

If you dye and bleach your hair yourself, try doing this before bleaching or applying the dye:

-Apply melted coconut oil all over your head before you go to sleep at night, especially your ends since that’s what dries out first, put a shower cap over your head while you sleep, and the next morning, apply the bleach like you normally would, with the oil still in your hair.

If you go to a hair dresser and have your hair professionally dyed and done, heres a few suggestions:

-Inquire about peroxide- and ammonia-free hair dye. It doesn’t last as long, so you may have to return sooner than you would with the dye that does have it, but it’s less damaging and a lot more healthy.

-Try going lighter gradually. Instead of going super light all in one session or reaching your color at one time, try going two or three times and applying a little more dye and/or bleach at a time. That way the intentional color you’re starting with the second time around is a lot closer to the color you really want.

I hope these tips help you on your hair dyeing adventures!
